The Gnome of Laurel Mountain
Can You Find The Legendary Gnome?
The Legend Of
THE GNOME OF LAUREL MOUNTAIN
Long ago, a very special visitor arrived at Laurel Mountain, carried here by a member of The Friends of Laurel Mountain, Sandy Crumrine. That visitor was no ordinary gnome…
The Laurel Mountain Gnome hails from the snowy lands of Scandinavia and is a distant descendant of Skadi, the Goddess of Winter and Mountains, and Ullr, the Norse God of Snow, the Patron Saint of Skiers—and even the mighty Thor’s stepson! With a family tree like that, it’s no surprise he chose Laurel Mountain as his home.
The Gnome’s Mission
The Laurel Mountain Gnome has important work to do:
Watch over skiers and snowboarders, keeping a careful eye on the slopes to help everyone enjoy the mountain safely
Remind us to respect and protect nature, because the mountain is his home too.
And most importantly… use his magical influence with Ullr and Skadi to bless Laurel Mountain with long, cold, snowy winters
Can You Find Him?
The Gnome loves to explore—and he hides all around the mountain! It is the job of skiers and
riders to keep an eye out for him. When you find the Gnome, you may gently move him to a new
spot on the mountain, making sure:
He is treated carefully (he is very old!)
He can clearly see the slopes
And others can spot him so they know he’s watching over them
But don’t forget the proof!
When you find the Gnome, take a photo with him and share it on the “The Gnome of Laurel Mountain” Facebook page. Show everyone where he’s been spotted and help spread the legend! Each new location helps the Gnome keep Laurel Mountain safe, snowy, and full of fun.
A Little Magic Goes a Long Way
The Laurel Mountain Gnome is here to make your time on the mountain more magical and memorable. Respect the Gnome—and remember, he may be small, but his power over Laurel Mountain is mighty! So, keep your eyes open… you never know when the Gnome might be watching you carve your next turn!
